When One is Detained: A Church’s Response

This conversation builds on our recent podcast episode featuring Pastor Wilber Marenco. We invite you to listen to the episode in advance as preparation for this time together.

In this session, we are joined by Pastor Wilber Marenco and Pastor Jim Caple, who walked closely with him and his family during his immigration detention.

Together, they will share their story, offering a window into both the personal experience of detention and the role of the local church in responding with presence, care, and solidarity.

As we listen, we will consider:

  • What does it look like for a church to faithfully accompany someone through detention?

  • How do relationships shape our response in moments of crisis?

  • What might it mean for our own communities to bear witness in similar ways?

This is an invitation to learn not just from what happened, but from how the Church showed up – and how your church can do it too.
