Bridging Divides

Join us on May 7th at 7pm ET / 4pm PT, where we will discuss naming misogynoir as both a theological and structural problem—and imagining gender justice as a spiritual practice. We have been here before, and this moment requires us to to be grounded in joy while combating and dismantling systems of oppression and violence.

You can find our previous webinar series Faithful Conversations: Leading in Divided Times, on our SojoAction YouTube channel.

When One is Detained: A Church’s Response

This conversation builds on our recent podcast episode featuring Pastor Wilber Marenco. We invite you to listen to the episode in advance as preparation for this time together.

In this session, we are joined by Pastor Wilber Marenco and Pastor Jim Caple, who walked closely with him and his family during his immigration detention.

Together, they will share their story, offering a window into both the personal experience of detention and the role of the local church in responding with presence, care, and solidarity.

As we listen, we will consider:

  • What does it look like for a church to faithfully accompany someone through detention?

  • How do relationships shape our response in moments of crisis?

  • What might it mean for our own communities to bear witness in similar ways?

This is an invitation to learn not just from what happened, but from how the Church showed up – and how your church can do it too.

Theology of Migration: What Forms Our View?

What informs our views on migration? A 2022 Lifeway poll revealed that only 20% of Christians shape their views on immigration through Scripture, while most rely on media and cultural narratives. This session invites us to pause and re-examine how we understand migration through the lens of our faith.

Together, we will wrestle with what the Bible says about migration, displacement, and the call to love our immigrant neighbors. Through stories from Scripture and stories from today, we will explore how a biblical imagination might challenge and reshape our response.

This session will not be recorded. We ask that participants honor the speaker’s work and refrain from recording or distributing the content.

Jews Demand: ICE Out! National Day of Action

On April 30, Jews around the country will gather to demand ICE OUT, anchored by a mass action in New York City. We stand with immigrants and reject ICE brutality and violence. We want ICE out of our schools and workplaces, out of our parks and streets, out of our places of worship, and out of communities everywhere. Grounded in our sacred teachings, we will make the moral case that this system is both a failure of policy and of conscience, and that it does not have to be this way. Jews demand: ICE Out!

JCA Freedom Seder

For 24 years, Jewish Community Action's Annual Freedom Seder has brought together people from diverse backgrounds to retell the Pesach story in connection with modern-day liberation movements.

This year, we'll focus on the many ways Minnesotans are "welcoming the stranger" under the thumb of oppression.

Details: Sunday, March 22nd, 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM at Brookview Golden Valley, 316 Brookview Pkwy S, Golden Valley, MN 55426. Doors Open at 4:30 PM.

We will conclude with a vegetarian meal, and offer a small seder sampling earlier in the program, including both traditional and gluten-free matzah options.

Accessibility Notes: The venue is ADA accessible, and certified service animals are welcome. Spanish and ASL interpretation available at no cost. Children are not just welcome but central to telling our Passover story!

SCOTUS Briefing: Immigration Advocates Lay Out Arguments in Upcoming Asylum Case

Immigrant advocates, legal experts, and faith leaders will hold a media briefing next Tuesday, March 17, ahead of upcoming arguments before the Supreme Court in Noem v. Al Otro Lado. The case, filed on behalf of courageous asylum seekers and legal service provider Al Otro Lado, focuses on the legality of a border policy blocking access to the U.S. asylum process. The advocates argue the turnback policy, under which immigration officers physically blocked people seeking safety at official border crossings from setting foot onto U.S. soil, flouts federal immigration law and our society’s deepest held legal and moral principles.
